Ownership is a ledger, not a field.

Who owns a unit is written as a line with a date, a counterparty and who recorded it. Owned, rented in from a supplier, held on consignment, sold. Each change is a new line. Nothing is overwritten: a mistake is corrected by a new line that says what it corrects.

Sold units keep their history and stop counting against your plan.
Equipment you rent in sits on the same record as your own, with its due-back date and a morning email when it is overdue.
The ledger cannot be edited or deleted by the application, only added to.

The label it was given, where it moved, every job it went out on and came back from, the repair it was opened for, the day it was sold or retired. All on one screen, in order, with who did it and when.

Ownership, status and location are three separate facts, so "rented in, in repair, on the bench" is one unit, not three guesses.

Upload it, match the columns once, and Yardwrite shows what it will create before it creates anything. Then it tells you, row by row, what was accepted and why the rest was not: a duplicate in the file, a type it does not know, a blank where a choice is needed.

Labels that catch a misread.

Every label is a 14-character code: your own three-letter prefix, a serial, and a check character. OLBU-0000117-K A scanner that drops or swaps a character gets a code that fails the check instead of the wrong unit.

Questions

What counts as a unit?

A serial-numbered thing you own or manage: owned stock, equipment you have rented in, and consigned equipment you hold. A unit you have sold or retired stays on the books as history and does not count.

Does the trial need a card?

You can open the account and import up to 25 units before adding a card. At your first sign-in you are asked for one; with it on file the trial runs to the full plan limit. Nothing is charged until day 31.

Can I get my data out?

Yes. Units, cases and their contents export to CSV or Excel from the Exports screen at any time. If you close the account, an archive of every table and every file is produced first, and the data is deleted 90 days after cancellation. You can undo a cancellation before then.

How is my data protected?

Each account's rows are kept apart from every other account's by the database itself, on every table. The whole database is backed up every night, encrypted, into storage that refuses to overwrite or delete a backup for thirty days.

Does scanning need special hardware?

No. Labels are Code 128 barcodes. Any handheld barcode scanner that types into a browser works, and you can also type a code by hand.

What if I have more than 30,000 units?
